The Marburg Institute for Innovation Research and Business Start-up Promotion (MAFEX) supports founders from the university on their path to self-employment. Around 500 business start-up projects by students and employees of Philipps-Universität Marburg have been actively supported in this way. The annual UNI IDEEN Marburg ideas competition also promotes the development of innovative business ideas.

The start-up support section provides information and know-how on advice, coaching and financing. There is also an incubator available as a coworking space in the Faculty of Philosophy for start-up projects.

MAFEX is part of StartMiUp (Startupnetzwerk Mittelhessen), a joint project of Justus Liebig University Giessen, Philipps University Marburg and the Technical University of Central Hesse under the umbrella of the Central Hesse Research Campus to strengthen start-up activity at universities in Central Hesse.
