More a makerspace than only a regular coworking space, the design factory was established at RTU's Science and Innovation Center in 2016.

The Design Factory manages the open-type workshop theLAB, where RTU students, employees, and scientists have the opportunity to materialize their inventions using the technological possibilities provided by 3D printing, laser cutting and engraving, plotting, large-format printing, and other auxiliary tools.

For several years, the Design Factory has organized various innovation capacity-building events for students, such as hackathons, innovation support programs, projects, and activities. Within these activities, the Design Factory has cooperated with companies such as Neste Latvija, Swedbank, Ecobaltia, AirBaltic, KPMG, and many others, creating numerous ideas that have turned into real products or services over time.
